6 Interior Trends for 2017

1. Greenery

When redesigning a room choosing the colour scheme is key. The Pantone Color Institute choose a colour each year based on what they see is happening in global culture. This year the Pantone colour of the year is ‘Greenery’.

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute says “Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”

2. Indoor Plants

Carrying on with the colour of the year – plants are another big design trend for this year.

At the start of the year Pinterest released their top 100 emerging trends for 2017. The list featured ‘indoor vines’ which saw an increase in ‘pins’ by 260% since September 2016.  With so many varieties around, plants for inside are the perfect way to inject some greenery without painting your walls green!

3. Grey Kitchen Furniture

If it’s time for a new kitchen, then you might want to consider grey as a potential cabinet colour. In recent times, white cabinets have been really popular. It’s now time to mix it up and give the kitchen a warmer feel and a colour which looks great against kitchen equipment. Enlist the help of a local carpenter / joiner to give advice and install your stylish new kitchen cabinets.

4. Marble

Marble is going to be big in 2017. Often associated with luxury and high price tags, marble effect tiles are an affordable alternative. Not only does cork look great and has the ability to absorb noise but it’s also incredibly practical for pinning notes onto. A cork wall could look great and be really useful in the office or kitchen. It doesn’t just stop at walls, cork is commonly used for flooring and even light fittings.

6. Copper

On Pinterest searches for copper have increased by 90%! From dining room chairs, plant pots, shelving for your bedroom, light shades or kitchen appliances, the copper trend isn’t going anywhere. Copper handles are the perfect addition to grey and navy kitchen cabinets and drawers.
