The TV favourite has backed the new Rental Passport, which simplifies the process of finding a rental property and gives those with the best credentials a head start.

Lucy said, “Demand for homes and apartments to rent is exceptionally high – landlords usually have a lengthy list of people interested in a property, especially in sought after locations. A lot of people are so keen to snap up a nice property in the right location that they don’t even view it beforehand. During lockdown, a lot of people were stuck in rental properties they no longer want so they’re keen to find somewhere new before further restrictions come in – there’s a lot of movement in the market.

“A lot of time is wasted during the referencing stage, which can be frustrating and often means people lose out on several homes before they’re finally accepted. It’s a long-winded and stressful process.

The Rental Passport will speed up the process and give a head start to people who have good credentials and who are in a position to move quickly.”

Renters are frequently forced into a mad dash to secure a property quickly, whether it’s the right home for them or not.

Once they’ve found a property that fits the bill, they must submit an application and wait while their details are scrutinised through a referencing process.

The Rental Passport speed things up so house hunters can submit reference checks before viewing a property, putting them ahead of the game and to the front of the queue.

The Rental Passport has been created by LegalforLandlords.

Its managing director, Sim Sekhon, explained the concept: “It’s extremely competitive out there and it’s clear that there needs to be a better way of doing things – the Rental Passport is free, valid for three months and can be used to apply for other homes in a similar price range.

It will put house-hunters in the driving seat and give them a head start in their search.”

The Rental Passport will also help to keep viewings Covid safe by limiting footfall – landlords can be more selective about viewings so fewer people need to enter the home.
